Project AFFIRM at the Rustin Lorde Breakfast

On January 16th, Anneliese Singh, PhD, and Nat Truszczynski from Project AFFIRM – Atlanta attended the Rustin Lorde Breakfast.
Founded to continue the legacy of progressive queer organizers Bayard Rustin and Audre Lorde, the breakfast is one of the largest gatherings of queer people of color in the Southeast United States.

Project AFFIRM joined local community organizations such as Southerners on New Ground, Charis Books, Georgia Equality and Thrive SS to share resources, grow our network and show solidarity.

While recruiting participants, Anneliese and Nat met Monica Helms, the creator of the trans pride flag. It was a great honor to meet Monica, who's been an advocate and organizer in Atlanta for many years.

During the event, poets shared stories of resilience and survival, activists told stories devotion to their causes, and organizers described their hope for change as they continue to work in Atlanta.

The AFFIRM-ATL team would like to thank the Rustin Lorde breakfast for creating such a unique space.
